Conservation Agriculture (CA) has been practiced for more than three decades. It represents an alternate approach to the sustainable intensification of agriculture and differs fundamentally from modern approaches based largely on intensive tillage and purchased inputs that often disrupt ecosystem functions. CA as a production system is underpinned by a set of three interlinked principles – minimum or no mechanical soil disturbance, permanent soil organic cover, and crop diversification – that are applied simultaneously.
